About 15 years ago, my wife and I were sheltering my nephews and their mother while she went to school and worked nights.  The boys were 5 and 7 and many times their mom was not home when bed time rolled around.  It was hard for them to deal with their new surroundings and confront the darkness of night without the comforting knowledge that mom and dad were a just a cry away.

So “Uncle B” started telling them tall tales of a Polar Bear named Rocky and his band of mammalian heroes.  There was Lance a bespectacled squirl who could read any language,  Bubba an enourmous Grizzly Bear with a constant craving for tacos,  Zarkov the alien scientist bear from the planet polarite, and the love of Rocky’s life, the brilliant polar princess Wilhelmina.   Each night the boys would help me find a place for Rocky to go, a problem to solve and another character to encounter.   It was great fun and seemed to satisfy their need for comfort at sundown.

My elder teen children got wind of these stories and began quizzing the nephews on what Rocky had been up to the night before.  In recent years, their children (my grandchildren) have come to me asking about Rocky’s adventures.
So, at long last, I have decided to write them down, digitally.

I wanted to change the Bear’s name to Thor,  but I was told it just wouldn’t be the same. Therefore I introduce to all who have an interest RockyThePolarBear.com and RockyStories.com a place that will allow “Grampa” to share his stories.
