20 years ago I taught Systems at a local community college.  If my students learned only one thing, it was the Socratic method; Never be afraid to ask “What do you mean by that?” and always ensure you “Define your terms”.  The term of the time was “Information Revolution” which we defined as “Rapidly changing knowledge communicated or received”.

Back then we thought the information revolution would be like other revolts; rise to a critical point, effect the needed change, and then become part of everday life. But what has become part of everyday life is the revolution itself.

Content is everywhere.  It comes in your email.  It’s broadcast at you.  Blogs are full of it.  We are inundated with the images, symbols, sounds and words of content at a ever increasing rate.

And what is the effect of this barrage of incoming?  Some try to keep up.  Many shut down. But eventually, we all get overwhelmed. Even the greateast Blackberry slinging, Mac based social networking expert will have to admit sometimes they don’t even know what day it is.

So I offer you all a new weapon in this battle to keep our wits.  A weapon powerful enough to change your world for the better, forever.  Here for your royalty free, unfettered use is the new word Protent.  It is the opposite of Content.  Protent is also known as what content becomes when you remove the pretense(Artificial behavior adopted to impress or deceive others).

Apply this word to all the information coming at you and suddenly the negative energy from the cons will be disappated.  Even the meaningless albeit sincere ramblings of those who would tell you about their latest dog bathing incident, will have trouble getting through your new protent shield unless YOU want to let them in.

The Information Revolution is not part of a cycle, it is a loop;  Ever more rapidly communicating  enourmous amounts of negative, misleading and time killing information instead of the positive uplifting and meaningful knowledge that was supposed to be the result of this uprising.

Contentment is our enemy.  We must not allow the sheer weight of information to settle us down.
Rise up!
Seize your protent!
Gain real knowledge!
Effect meanigful positive change!
